Top things to do in Margaret River
Margaret River has some of the world's most spectacular beaches. It's impossible to have a favourite, but these are our recommendations:
Fancy catching your own dinner? The best fishing is found at Boojidup Beach (north off the rocks), Blackwood River, Redgate Beach, Busselton Jetty, Hamelin Bay and Contos Beach, just to name a few. Depending on the season, you’re bound to see plenty of marine wildlife like whales, dolphins, sea lions, seals and fabulous sea birds too.
There are a couple of beginners rods free for you to use in the garage.
If you’re a golfer, you could almost tee off from the front balcony of the Surfers Retreat! We are right next door to the Margaret River Golf Club. Awarded the best West Australian regional golf course in 2016, it’s a great spot for a hit. The 18 Hole layout in the magical bush setting makes for a truly unique golfing experience. Visit

If there is no wind or waves, another alternative is the Stand Up Paddle boards. We love to go out at Gnarabup, or if the ocean is a bit choppy, up the Margaret River. In summer there is often rentals available from the beach at Gnarabup and Rivermouth, however reliability is a bit sketchy. You can book boards by calling Cinde Fisher on 0459 260 369
You've got 140km of stunning hiking right on your door step with the cape to cape track. The track traverses along the ridge and beaches of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park following the coast from Cape Naturaliste, Dunsborough to Cape Leeuwin, Augusta. With a bit of logistics management, you can choose different sections to do in a day, or otherwise just drive 2kms for the Surfers Retreat down to river mouth and do some out and back walks.
There are other beautiful walks in the Boronup Forrest and Meelup reserve up in Dunsborough.
Margaret River is a world class wine region, there are loads of premium vineyards on the doorstep of the Surfers Retreat. The wineries are a great place for a leisurely gourmet lunch, while the gardens and cellar doors are wonderful to just explore during the day. The best cellar doors close to the Surfers Retreat are Xanadu Cullen and Vasse Felix for tasting and lunch.
We have some of the most wonderful range of off road terrain around! From fires trails to hard core single track, Margaret River has it all. For a leisurely ride from the Surfers Retreat you join the bike path that will let you join the Wadandi Track. You literally turn left and go to the end of Wilderness road and your on the car free path.
