Margaret River is a world class wine region, there are loads of premium vineyards on the doorstep of the Surfers Retreat. The wineries are a great place for a leisurely gourmet lunch, while the gardens and cellar doors are wonderful to just explore during the day. The best cellar doors close to the Surfers Retreat are Xanadu Cullen and Vasse Felix for tasting and lunch. For just tasting, McHenry Hohnen wines are wonderful and their cellar door is very relaxed. You can also pick up some awesome small good from the Farmhouse also on site.. For a really special experience, head up to Domaine Naturalist and do the seated tasting. You can order a cheese platter and really take your time to enjoy the wines and the stunning setting. The other winery up north we love is Arimia. Arimia’s restaurant is very special with produce grown onsite, they even farm their own trout! While north we also recommend you drop into Cape Grace for an unpretentious wine tasting experience. We love their cab sav!
Our absolute favourite winery restaurant is Glenharty Road in Karridale Glenharty is well worth the 25 minute drive and good to combine with a visit to the rays of Hamelin Bay. At Glenharty you can get the true vibe of Margaret River, try some awesome wines and eat the most fabulous lunch in a relaxed garden setting. Make sure you book for lunch as this little gem is getting very popular!.
Wine tours are also a great way to take the worry out of your wine tasting experience. There are a plethora of operators, but the three we would recommend are Harvest tours, Margaret River Tours and The Margaret River Discovery co:
